His life takes an unexpected turn when a random online encounter introduces him to Xavier, an arrogant student but talented basketball player who seems to enjoy getting on his nerves more than anything else.

What begins as a frustrating clash of personalities quickly turns into something more complicated when the two are forced to work together on a school project. Confined to virtual meetings and unable to escape each other, Mico and Xavier slowly start to see beyond first impressions, revealing vulnerabilities, insecurities, and sides of themselves they rarely show to others.

As their relationship evolves from irritation to curiosity, and eventually to something deeper, both young men are challenged to rethink their assumptions about friendship, connection, and love. In a world where physical distance is unavoidable, they discover that emotional closeness can still grow in the most unexpected ways.

About the series and the movie:

Hello Stranger is a Filipino mini-series (8 episodes) in the drama, romance, and comedy genres, set during the COVID pandemic. It premiered on the official “Black Sheep” YouTube channel in June 2020.

The story later continued with a film adaptation, which was originally released on the Filipino platform KTX, where it was available for rental for a limited time.

At present, the series can still be watched on the Black Sheep YouTube channel as well as on the iWantTFC platform. It was also added to the Gagaoolala catalog on May 31, 2024.

The movie can be watched on Netflix, and on the official ABS-CBN Star Cinema YouTube channel. It is also available for rent on Amazon (in some countries).

Synopsis:

Mico is a first-year college student, top of his class, with a warm and friendly personality. His best friends are Seph, Kookai, and Junjun.

Due to the pandemic, they cannot meet in person as they are in quarantine, so they communicate through video calls and spend their free time together online.

One night, Mico and his friends decide to play an online trivia game, and unexpectedly someone joins their video call. The stranger turns out to be Xavier, a third-year student who, unlike Mico, is terrible at studying, but very good at basketball.


At first, they are happy that someone has joined the videocall and are willing to have a good time with them. However, Xavier behaves arrogantly and mocks them a bit, joking around at their expense, until he hangs up and leaves the group.


None of them finds the situation amusing, especially Mico, who becomes very angry at this guy. He cannot believe that just because he is handsome and popular, he thinks he is better than them.


Despite this, the days pass by and everyone goes on with their lives, putting that unpleasant incident aside.


However, things change when a teacher asks Mico a favor. She wants him to do a school project with another student who needs help. At first, Mico is reluctant about the idea, but even though he doesn’t feel like it, he ends up accepting. 
His teacher gives him the contact number of the student, but does not tell him the name.


Mico discovers that this student is none other than the arrogant Xavier. His face of surprise and discomfort says it all when Xavier appears on the screen. To make things worse, Xavier starts teasing him again, which makes Mico even more furious.


Between arguments and disagreements, both will have to learn to set aside their differences and prejudices if they want the project to succeed.

Against all odds, they will go from hatred to friendship, forming a very special bond between them.
